-Deaza-2'-deoxyguanosine 5'-triphosphate (-deaza-dGTP) 与天然底物 dGTP 竞争并阻断端粒酶活性。这种核苷酸一旦掺入端粒，就会改变端粒的二级结构，使端粒酶难以识别它以进行进一步的端粒合成。这种 dGTP 类似物与常规碱基弱配对，以最大限度地减少 DNA 二级结构，同时是 DNA 聚合酶的良好底物。 -deaza-dGTP 与二甲基亚砜 (DMSO) 和甜菜碱结合可增强富含 GC 的 DNA 序列的聚合酶链式反应 (PCR) 扩增。
